24'th of May
24'th of May
09 November 2009
24\'th of May is the date when we Bulgarians should celebrate in memory of Cyril and Methodius. The two bothers have written the "Glagolitsa", the oldest known Slavic alphabet.

Today the "Glagolitsa" is used fully or partly in almost all Slavic countries: Bulgaria, Russia, Macedonia, etc. But only in Bulgaria we still use the unique vowel sound "Ъ". No other language includes it which leads to the many variations of the Bulgarians as a nation: Bulgari, Bulgaria, Bolhar, Bulgar, where the sound is replaced with U, O, sometimes A.

The picture shows the contrast between the old forgotten traditions (the flag represents the first 4 letters from the alphabet) and the modern values (west oriented T-shirt.). 24'th of May should be one of the Greatest Bulgarian feasts.
